“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” -Theodore Roosevelt
At the beginning of every year, I pick a motto that I will keep in the back of my mind as decisions and obstacles come my way. For 2012, I decided that I would work with what I’ve got. I never thought that it would pertain to my life so much, but in just six months my motto has been my saving grace. Instead of jumping ahead, I have to ground myself in simply what I have to work with. It seems so simple, but everyone likes to dream. Everyone likes to imagine certain things. Everyone hopes for a happy ending. And lately, I have had to focus on what I do not have. It can be hard seeing things as they truly are. Because sometimes, it takes you seeing what you do not have to realize what you should have. And we should all have at least that.
